Youth development unit

The Youth development unit provides education and training assistance, guidance and support to help improve the future job prospects of young people in North-West Queensland.

The unit works collaboratively with schools, youth sector agencies and community stakeholders to promote the Innovative Youth program introduced under State Government's Education and Training Reforms for the Future. This initiative aims to equip 15 to 17 year olds not presently engaged in mainstream schooling, with practical workforce skills.

Through the support of a Youth Training Coordinator and teaching professionals, students are encouraged to develop personal management skills and improve levels of literacy and numeracy. The program offers the opportunity to visit workplaces and learn new skills across areas of construction, horticulture, information technology, metal fabrication, information technology, art, child care, hair and beauty, and social health.

For further information about the program, please contact the Youth Training Coordinator on 4744 9937.
